"The 1967 Riots"*martial law in action" plus ...Contract talks
On Sunday July 23rd 1967,
the city of Detroit erupted in anger,
and flames, a.k.a. the 67 Riots...
Forty years ago this week, the race riots in Detroit,
at that time the fifth largest city in the nation,
changed the landscape of a city and left scars that
many have worked four decades to heal.
we still have many lessons to learn.
The riots that happened that summer set the stage for a climate so tense,
that the community still hasn't gotten over it 40 years later.
It's hard to dispute the fact that
the 1967 Detroit riot's impact on
Detroit was severe.
Dozens of homes and businesses were destroyed,
more than a thousand people were injured
and 43 people died.
In its aftermath, small businesses and the white middle class
stepped up their exodus to the suburbs.
Even now, boarded up storefronts and burned shells
of homes and buildings dot many neighborhoods.
Will the military be coming to your neighborhood soon ????
On the lighter side of the news...
Contract talks open today that many consider
to be the most important in the history of the auto industry
and the rest of the working class of this country.
Industry analysts say reducing labor costs is critical to survival.
Ford is particularly hard hit and will likely seek deeper concessions
than Chrysler or G-M, perhaps temporary wage cuts
Are you ready to have your wages reduced to save your job?....
